Film: If Beale Street Could Talk (Cert 15)

An adaptation of James Baldwin’s novel about a woman fighting to free her falsely accused husband from prison before the birth of their child, director Barry Jenkins’ follow-up to Moonlight has been described as a plunge into the world of black love, with all the pain and the joy that can go along with it. A work that examines the African-American experience through its setting in 1970s New York, this is a gorgeous and jazz-inspired tone poem on the subjects of love, suffering and racial injustice.
