Forever granted a place in Cinematic history by winning the first ever Academy Award for Best Picture in 1927, William A. Wellman’s silent epic ‘Wings’ is more than an Oscar winner, it is an epic story of friendship.
Hometown friends Jack (Charles ‘Buddy’ Rogers) and David (Richard Arlen) compete for the affections of local beauty Sylvia Lewis (Jobyna Ralston) though Jack doesn’t realise that ‘girl next door’ Mary Preston played beautifully by the iconic star Clara Bow has eyes for him and when the boys head off to do their patriotic duty during World War I in France, Mary follows Jack behind enemy lines.
Wellman’s epic silent drama which is being presented by the Lancastrian Theatre Organ Trust in conjunction with the Theatre Organ Club will be accompanied by David Ivory on The Mighty Compton Organ and alongside astounding performances by Clara Bow and her co-stars, this feature also introduced film legend Gary Cooper to audiences in his debut performance on the giant Silver Screen.
