Twenty years after redefining the gritty, urban crime drama with Mean Streets, Martin Scorsese returned to New York City with his 1993 adaptation of Edith Wharton’s novel, The Age Of Innocence.

Set in the milieu of late 19th century high society, the film combines an all star cast (Daniel Day-Lewis, Michelle Pfeiffer, Winona Ryder), breath-taking period design and Scorsese at his audacious best, for a sumptuous experience that still dazzles.

In a 25th anniversary event Bigger Than Life presents a one-off 35mm screening, introduced by University of Liverpool’s Professor Janet Beer, who has published widely on the fiction, travel and life writings of Edith Wharton.
