Welcome Home to The Crastonians

On October 7th 1932 the all new Plaza Super Cinema and Variety Theatre opened her doors for the very first time under the management of Mr George L. Abercrombie and on that first evening as well as the Cinematic presentations of ‘Jail Birds’ starring the Kings of silver screen comedy Laurel and Hardy along with a screening of ‘Out Of The Blue’ starring Gene Gerrard and Jesse Matthews, the honour of being the first Variety act to grace the stage was the Brother and Sister Act – The Crastonians.

The Crastonians were a musical act who attired in Scottish dress would entertain audiences in the Variety Halls with The Plaza welcoming them as their first act on the newly built stage

3 days after opening The Plaza, The Crastonians signed this wonderful autograph to Mr & Mrs Abercrombie and Peter and the presumption is that this was to our first General Manager and then….the autograph become a much cared for heirloom ending up across the pond in America!

Found by our Deputy Technical Manager on line for sale, the deal was done and the autograph returned to the venue it was signed in over 90 years ago and has now been framed and is on display at The Plaza……Welcome Home Crastonians!
