All in a weeks work Behind The Scenes
If you’ve ever wondered what takes place behind the scene’s in a standard week at The Plaza regards looking after the fabric and Maintenance of our much loved Art Deco gem well let’s lift the curtain and show you a typical week in the behind the scenes life of your Super Cinema and Variety Theatre here in the heart of Stockport.
Lighting is an important feature not only to illuminate your visit but also with our beautiful light fittings which exactly match those put in situe in 1932 we have reinstalled our ‘fins’ to match the mottled effect drop shades that so beautifully enhances our auditorium with diffused light creating just the right levels of illumin and shadow on our ornamental plasterwork.
Rosie our Techncial Manager oversaw the exacting installation of our lighting fins whilst at the same time preparing and then eventually re-painting our backstage stairs all of which in their traditional deep scarlet with white nosings create the perfect finish to the stairs that have seen the stars of yesteryear and today heading to their dressing rooms and the Plaza stage.
Finally, Ben our Deputy Technical Manager was asked to head up, Box Brownie in hand to take some images rarely seen of the roof void above our auditorium just to add a certain extra interest to your view behind the scenes in your local entertainment venue.
Join us on one of our regular ‘Behind The Scenes Tours’ or maybe our Heritage Open Day in September to see some of these wonderful locations in person or if you are interested in joining our Technical team who look after many aspects of the maintenance of our wonderful building, details of our next Volunteer Induction Evening can be found on the ‘Recruitment’ or ‘Volunteers’ pages of this web site and we look forward to welcoming you to be part of our award winning team of Volunteers and dedicated staff.
