Fundraising Organ Coffee Morning a Birthday Triumph for The World’s oldest Working Theatre Organist!

It was an honour to welcome Mr Dave Nicholas to The Mighty Compton Organ console today as we helped him celebrate his 90th Birthday with fellow Organists Mr Michael Holmes, Mr Charles Brown, Mr Adrian Rose and Mr Andrew Moody also playing our 1932 Organ, whilst Mr Christopher Cotton played beautifully on the Plaza Grand Piano all supporting The Plaza by entertaining our wonderful audience during our very special Organ Fundraising Coffee Morning today.

Dave Nicholas of Birkenhead has loved the cinema organ since he was a young man and is best known for being organist for the film programme at Liverpool’s Philharmonic Hall.

Now known as the world’s oldest working theatre organist and still brimming with enthusiasm, we wanted him to play an organ in an original cinema once again to mark his 90th birthday so Dave Nicholas played the Plaza’s Mighty Compton Organ for our coffee morning on Saturday 19th July at 12pm Noon to rapturous applause from our fabulous audience.

To add to the Birthday Celebrations, Eve Moss who has been the driving force for so many successful projects at The Plaza and has nurtured so many of our fabulous Volunteers to become amazing ambassadors of The Plaza just as she has been for so many years alongside David Blake who as a Plaza Director has such passion for our magnificent Compton Organ, its continued restoration and usage along with the heritage of our much loved Art Deco gem, presented Dave with a beautiful Birthday Cake that was designed especially for the occassion by one of our amazing team and included a Compton Organ on this delicious creation.

It has been an honour to welcome Dave today to The Plaza alongside of all of the magnificent Musicians who supported us either on The Mighty Compton Organ or our beautiful Grand Piano in a morning of entertainment that was an absolute Triumph and also Thank You to everyone who supported us today and our ongoing Fundraising for our Maintenance and Restoration Appeal.
