Grand Designs are well underway for the restoration of our House Tabs

J&C Joel Ltd who are expert manufacturers for Design Drapery for shows and events based in Sowerby Bridge,  joined our General Manager Ted Doan and Technical Manager Rosie Holdaway to commence the finalisation of designs for the replacement of our existing ‘House Tabs’ to enable an even closer restoration of curtains which match the original designs which graced our stage in 1932.

The Plaza tableau curtain which is referred to as the ‘House Tabs’ depicts a sumptuos kaleidoscope of floral colours in tall reaching holly hocks and border flora nestling in a garden of variated tall grasses which wraps itself around a traditional bee skep on a plynth which is enabling honey bees which are famously the iconic motif for our neighbours in Manchester to fly into a golden sky with clouds gently ebbing past that are also filled with colouful butterflies.

Ted and Rosie along with Nigel Anderton our Chairman and the Plaza Directors have worked hard to agree the final designs in conjunction with J&C Joel Ltd and our local conservation officer at SMBC so that this important element of the ongoing restoration of The Plaza is closer to the original designs than the impressive set we presently have in situe.

We are presently in discussions regards the future for our exisiting tabs which will be leaving us once the new curtains are completed, weighted and then hung in position for everyone to enjoy in our Proscenium Arch.
