Happy Birthday and Huzzah for 25 years since Your Plaza Reopened
On October 7th 1932 the glorious Plaza Super Cinema and Variety Theatre was opened however after many years of trading in her various guises initially as a Theatre and Cinema then in later years as a Bingo Hall she was closed and for a number of years was a ‘Sleeping Beauty’ on Mersey Square awaiting the kiss of love and life that would awaken her again.
The community gathered together and The Stockport Plaza Trust was born who campaigned and with the support of Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council brought our Art Deco gem back to life and reopened The Plaza on her birthday on October 7th 2000.
Tonight we celebrated 25 glorious years since our venue was reopened and our venues birthday with a Dinner hosted by Nigel Anderton our Chairman with special guests all of whom have supported The Plaza and contributed to her success.
Thank you to every one who over the years has been a part of our amazing success story helping us restore The Plaza to the heart of her community where we know she will be much loved for generations to come.
