Restoration Update – 05.05.19

Works are proceeding well with the refurbishment and restoration of the left hand side wall of our auditorium in the Stalls with the stud work and tanking now all in situe ensuring that any water ingress into the auditorium is drawn away from the ornamental walls and taken to a water trap fitted with a sump pump under the floor to drain the water which has caused so much damage in the last few years away from the building.

Ornate Interiors who did a breathtaking restoration of our plasterwork in 2009 have returned to commence the painstaking works of restoring the walls to their former glory and have applied the base layer for the plasterwork which is now in place.

The plaster will need a couple of weeks to ‘breath’ and dry out after which sconce wall pediments will be returned and re-fitted after they were carefully removed at the beginning of the restoration works, the light fittings can then be reinstated followed by the repainting of the distinctive Gold and Silver colour scheme to the walls and ornamental features creating the beautiful Art Deco symmetry that creates such a beautiful vista within our much loved venue.
