Restoration Update – 05.10.13
October is here and the restoration of our circle is almost complete with only a few areas of the paintwork to be completed and after our pantomime the ‘chroming’ of the new sun burst decorative rails which are now in position at the front of our beautifully restored circle.
During the works we had some amazing finds including lost and discarded litter and ephemera from audiences over the decades including the now famous school cap and an 80 year old ticket stub, all of which are on display in our box office, whilst we also found perior fixtures and fittings like the original door handles for the rooms leading behind the glazed windows in our auditorium which have been restored and are now back in situe in their original location.
With an elegant sweep of seating and uninterupted sight lines so that you can now see the full splendour of our illuminated orchestra rail and The Mighty Compton Organ the architectural integrity of our art deco Super Cinema and Variety Theatre has been restored and the works are a credit to the craftsmen and women who looked after the project overseen by our Technical Director and Vice Chairman Gary Trinder.
