Restoration Update – 10.08.13
As we head into the final countdown of history being made with the restoration of our circle back to its original location and format which will enable us to enjoy the magificent splendour of the original design of our art deco gem we were able to undertake a few aspects of the restoration in advance of works commencing a day earlier than planned tomorrow – Sunday 11th August.
Our specialist conservation plasterers have been working on the sides of the Circle restoring the wooden laths and plaster undercoat in preperation for the decorative works to proceed once the steps of the circle have been fully revealed following 76 years of slumbering under the ‘new’ circle which was installed in 1937.
Alongside the preperation works the first replica stairs were installed at the foot of the right hand side of the circle close to the now revealed entrances to the ‘window rooms’ which initially once in situe will be covered in a temporary red carpet but once the full carpet and seat restoration takes place hopefully within the year will have an exact match of the carpet coverings in situe when The Plaza opened in October 1932.
