Restoration Update – 03.07.13

One of the most exciting chapters in the story of our restoration and maintenance of our much loved art deco gem began today with building specialists visiting The Plaza to inspect our circle in advance of works commencing on Monday 12th August to remove the late 30’s shallow rake of seating that covers over the original stepped circle.

The works will reinstate the circle as per the original architects design, restoring the integrity of the building and also creating the perfect sightlines that we have been missing for so many years.

The central aisle in the circle will be retained and external aisles will be restored creating far easier access to the seats which hopefully will be replaced at some point in 2014.

Gary Trinder our Technical Director who expertly leads our restoration, met with David Watkins and the team of engineers who will overseeing and undertaking the works for our first underfloor inspection and we now countdown to the works starting in earnest in August.
