Restoration Update – 30.07.13
In advance of the circle restoration which commences in earnest on Saturday 3rd August with further inspection sections removed in the centre circle, followed by the full dismantling, removal and reinstatement of the original 1932 circle from Monday 12th August it has been important to finish off some of the smaller tasks including the completion of the installation of a replica transom window into the left hand circle lobby leading from the main staircase.
The window with its 6 pains of frosted glass was a design feature to provide an ascetic enhancement to the large butress wall leading into the lobby by the architects responsible for the design of The Plaza and also admits more natural light in the small entrance area.
Once the plaster is restored, wood stained and paintwork restored this will look like an original feature preserved for generations in our magnificent art deco Super Cinema and Variety Theatre.
