Restoration Update – 30.08.11
Thanks to the outstanding generosity of our patrons and the general public the first stage of our ‘Light Up The Plaza’ fundraising campaign has been completed with re-illumination of the wonderful laylight located high in the ceiling in our circle and balcony.
This stunning reinstatement has transformed the upper seating areas of the Plaza into a warm and welcoming environment for our guests to enjoy the greatest cinema classics of all time on the silver screen or one of our diverse live stage productions and helps us to get one step closer to completing another section of the ongoing restoration of Stockports 1932 art deco gem in time for her 80th birthday next year.
Only two more sections of the auditorium lighting need to be completed before we turn our attention to the next stages of restoration and maintenance, namely the return of the art deco central light fitting in the centre dome in its lofty heights above the auditorium followed by installation of house lighting behind the large ‘windows’ which are currently dark and dont permit us to show the beautiful stained glass and designs of these magnificent glass fittings…..so the fund raising continues to raise the final £5,000 required with collections, open days, tours and of course the generosity of any visitors to our web site who have supported us through the ‘Just Giving’ icon which leads to our fundraising site.
