A timid young woman meets and falls in love with a wealthy widower whilst in Monte Carlo. After a whirlwind romance and wedding, she travels to her new English country estate but finds her joy short lived when she discovers that Rebecca – her husband’s first wife – exerts a ghostly hold over everything there.
